Peckham
MP Harriet Harman and Southwark Council leader Nick Stanton
at the launch of the Credit Union Current Account.
Southwark
credit union is the first in London to offer a new current
account with an ATM / Debit card as one of its financial services.
Some 35,000 people in Southwark don’t have a bank account
or access to mainstream financial services. Other Southwark
credit union services include savings accounts and low-cost
loans – a fair alternative to the doorstep lenders who
target poorer households.
The council as a whole and Peckham Programme locally have
put money in to support the credit union as part of the fight
against local economic deprivation.
Peckham MP Harriet Harman and Southwark Council leader Nick
Stanton spoke at the official launch of the current account
on 27th February 2007.
